Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone: Continue to Move forward during the Pandemic

In 2020, facing the severe challenge brought by the COVID, SSEZ has achieved zero infection among the people in the zone and achieved remarkable achievements in the growth of production and sales of enterprises in the zone. There are 166 enterprises from China, Europe, the United States, Southeast Asia and other countries and regions in the region at present. The total import and export volume of enterprises in the region reached 1.565 billion US dollars, increasing 26.52% over the same period last year. Behind this growth are the concerted efforts made by the SSEZ Company and other enterprises in the region to prevent the epidemic, promote production, stabilize employment and pursue development by all means.
SSEZ is an international industrial park facing the world. Therefore, since the outbreak of the global pandemic, SSEZ has attached great importance to it. Together with enterprises and units in the region, it has continued to take strict prevention and control measures and set up a prevention and control emergency team to fully deploy the prevention and control work in the Special Economic Zone. The measures included
- Set up ten working groups to supervise and inspect all units in the area to realize grid management;
- Give full play to the role of the community health service center of the Special Zone; and
- form joint prevention and control efforts with the Sihanoukville provincial government and hospitals.
Moreover, further actions are enforced, like disinfection of public places and temperature measurement of personnel in and out, which have ensured the normal operation of enterprises.
In the meantime, SSEZ Company also gives full play to the platform's role to facilitate the development of enterprises. As for the problem of raw materials off-supply earlier, SSEZ company coordinated the enterprises in the area to help each other and adjust the surplus and shortage; We will spare no effort to help the newly settled enterprises to complete all kinds of license procedures and speed up the construction of production facilities so that the 12 enterprises will be put into production smoothly in 2020.
At the same time of epidemic prevention and production protection, the SSEZ Company has steadily promoted the construction of the 2.0 upgraded version of the Special Zone. Nowadays, the 50MW high-voltage substation in the zone is in regular operation, significantly improving the zone's power supply capacity and stability. The main construction of the thermal power plant has been completed; the construction of the second phase of the water plant is being accelerated; all six dormitories for workers in the first phase have been completed and put into use and industrial, and urban supporting functions are being continuously improved and upgraded. In addition, through industrial investment, the company also optimizes the industrial chain supporting capacity, strives to improve the production and operation environment of "attracting, retaining and developing."
The Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone has always been regarded as the "engine" of local economic development. The anti-epidemic performance of "zero infection," the achievements of production, and marketing against the trend have provided strong support for the stable employment and stable economic and social operation of Sihanoukville Province in the face of the epidemic. In the meanwhile, the Cambodian government has started extensive reconstruction and expansion of 34 main roads in Sihanoukville since the end of 2019, construction of Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway and expansion of Sihanoukville International Airport; all of which have created a good environment for the Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone to achieve better and faster development.
